Earlwood Baptist Church is a growing multicultural church located in the inner suburbs of Sydney. The church is a gathering of people from all walks of life with different stories, cultures, and backgrounds, but we have found oneness in Jesus. We gather as a family!

We are looking for an individual or a couple with a passion for Jesus, a willingness to serve in a multicultural environment, a heart for kids and young people, and a desire to learn.

This role is focused on equipping you for your future endeavor in local church ministry.

What you will do:

• Children’s Ministry

• Grow in your ability to creatively put together regular Kids church services
• Serve as the primary “face” for the Children’s Ministry
• Engage in school Scripture classes
• Connect with church parents
• Grow in your ability to give administrative and ministry support to the Playtime Ministry
• Assist in following up with parents who attend the Playtime

• Volunteer Management

• Build and manage a regular volunteer team
• Train & empower volunteers

• Church Services

• Assist in the leading of the Sunday worship services (Bible Reading, Prayer, Hosting).
• Assist in conducting sacraments like Holy Communion, Baby Dedication, and Baptism.
• Assist in the spiritual and emotional care of the congregation.
• Grow in your ability to minister across the ever-changing cultural landscape of urban ministry.
• Learn to serve with people from different cultural backgrounds.

• Administration

• Grow in your understanding of basic church operations.
• Keep records as required by the church and the law.
• Maintain the church’s financial integrity by ensuring appropriate systems and procedures are followed, generosity is valued, and good stewardship principles are followed.
• Communicate and report back to the Associate Pastor.

Skills you will gain:

• Understanding of general pastoral functions in a local congregation.
• Ability to provide pastoral care to the children under your care.
• Ability to put together regular Sunday services for the Children.
• Ability to assist in putting together special services such as Baptisms, Baby Dedications under the guidance of the Associate Pastor.
• Ability to engage the local ministry opportunities e.g. local public schools, playtime etc.
• Understanding of basic church operations, both administrative and operational.
• Ability to lead and manage the Children’s ministry volunteer team.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Welcome Desk is the first stop for visitors at Grace Church! As such, this volunteer role is designed to provide a friendly, inviting, and well-informed environment for all in-person guests, Care Center friends, and those who call in. Additionally, some minor administrative assistance to the Director of Reception may be requested. This role helps to support Grace Church in demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ and Grace's core values to everyone we reach.

Current Shifts Available

Monday 9 a.m. – 11 a.m or 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. – 5.pm.

Tuesday 9 a.m. – 11 a.m or 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. – 5.pm.

Wednesday 9 a.m. – 11 a.m or 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

4th Thursdays 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

(The Welcome Desk is open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are looking for those who can commit to volunteering weekly for one or two shifts. Each shift is 2 hours, with a 4-hour maximum per day.)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide quality and dependable service on the phone and in-person to all visitors, guests, Care Center friends, and staff, such as greeting people as they call or walk through the doors or pass by the Welcome Desk.

Support guests donating food, clothing, or household items

by directing them to the appropriate bins and expressing gratitude verbally and with a form (if applicable).

Answer questions about events and programs happening at Grace by accessing the Grace or Care Center website or transferring the questions/calls to the appropriate member of staff.

Direct guests to check in and out through the sign-in sheet or kiosks (if applicable) and connect those who come in for meetings to the appropriate member of staff.

Communicate with Director of Reception for questions or situations that need more care or if unable to provide answers or perform responsibilities.

Return the Welcome Desk to its original state after each shift to support the next person volunteering and maintain a clean and orderly working environment.

Receive packages and contact the recipients to pick them up in the designated pick-up area.

Discuss with Director of Reception any concerns about guests when necessary.

REQUIREMENTS

Ability to volunteer consistently for specific shift(s).

Must be able to arrive 5 minutes prior to shift to receive any daily updates and to promptly relieve the previous volunteer.

Must be 18+.

English required; Spanish or another language helpful!

Must be willing to learn the phone and door monitoring systems and be willing to use email, Teams, and navigate the Grace Church website as necessary.

Must be able to treat all guests with the love of Christ and with respect and dignity.
