Message Transcript Today, we are talking about the Gospel of John. It doesn't begin with any details about the actual birth of Jesus; it begins with a very complicated, philosophical introductory passage about Jesus and tells us a great deal about ""why"" Jesus was born in the first place. It tells us that Jesus was born: To bring light into our dark world. So that he could introduce us to his good Father. To bring an end to our loneliness and isolation. So that everyone would know that we can become children of God!/p> John 1:14-16 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son. John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, ""This is the one I was talking about when I said, Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me."" From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. Johns shows us: Times when Jesus was gracious to people that didn't usually receive any kindness at all. When Jesus spoke hard truths that needed to be said. When Jesus spoke directly to what real love looks like. That he was purposeful in his writing. Verse 14: John makes sure we all know he was one of the ""we"" that had actually lived with Jesus and had seen up close how much Jesus' life reflected the glorious life of God. Verse 15: He goes to great lengths to have John the Baptist say things that lift up Jesus and lower himself down. Verse 16: John is saying that Jesus came for everyone. No matter where you find yourself today, no matter what your life story may be or what your background might be or what your sense of yourself may be, Jesus is here to shower you with the graciousness and truth of God.
