What this whole series is about: you don't have to be afraid of the dark anymore. And I want this series to be like a warm hug from God letting you know He's with you, he loves you, and it's going to be ok.
This sermon focuses on the Gospel of John 1. We can't see God, but Jesus reveals him to us. And what is revealed in the life of Jesus?
We all face caverns of darkness. But Jesus is the shining path out of the cave. He's the ""light that leads to life."" You can take comfort and joy knowing that:
You don't have to be afraid of the dark anymore.
God has chosen to reveal himself to us in the most unexpected of ways: he became one of us. The Word of God became human.
He stepped into our darkness so that his blazing light could cast away the shadows of our fear and shame.
As we enter into this Christmas season, I want you to know there is hope. John says in verse 5, ""The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.""
And, to be practical, there are three ways you can step into this:
1. Make an appointment with God. Come to church.
2. Let us take care of you. Make an appointment to receive pastor care or visit the Care Center.
3. Meditate on the truth. Take time over the next several weeks to reflect and meditate on the truth. As we learn about the family of God, and the light of Christ, and the Word, let these profound concepts sink deeply into the reality of your life.
